Don’t Open Your Boxes: A Manifesto

A Stylematch shopping try-on is truly shopping the way it should be: Try on pieces hand-picked for you by your very own personal stylist with your stylist present to weigh in, all in the comfort of your own home. Because we ship everything directly to you, however, it can be tempting to open the packages before your shopping try-on… just to take a peek! Please don’t. Here’s why:

It’s easier than you think to mix up or misplace pieces.

Stylematch is just about the only personal styling service that empowers our stylists to source clothes from any retailer and purchases the clothes on your behalf so you don’t have to buy anything before you’ve tried it on and decided you love it. By giving our stylists this freedom, they are able to find the absolute best pieces for you and try a variety of sizes and colors to find the best fit if needed. But you do have to send back the ones that don’t work for you — and it’s harder to do that if they are already mixed up before the session starts.

If the retailer makes a mistake, you won’t know.

Sometimes retailers make mistakes. They send you the wrong size or forget to include an item. Recently, one of our clients received an H&M dress inside a box shipped from Quince(!) It is not super common, but it happens, and while you won’t know if a mistake has been made, your stylist will!

It’s almost impossible not to pre-judge pieces.

We all have a comfort zone when it comes to clothes, and when you open a box, you’re going to have thoughts about the pieces inside. If you’ve already decided a dress doesn’t work for you, it creates a barrier for your stylist to do the best job possible because they first have to walk you back from that judgement. This is a big one. Bigger than most of us realize. During your shopping try-on, your stylist will ensure you try on every piece and will ensure you find the best fit of every piece. Spoiler alert: lots of us don’t know what fits us either :)
